The AKG C414 XLS is a premium condenser microphone offering an exceptional selection of nine polar patterns to adapt to any recording situation. A direct descendant of the legendary C414 B-ULS, it carries on a legacy dating back to 1971, renowned for its neutrality, linearity, and unmatched versatility.
Designed to capture vocals and acoustic instruments with outstanding detail, the C414 XLS combines an extended 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency response with an ultra-low self-noise of just 6 dB-A. Its high-precision internal circuitry ensures a natural and faithful sound, free from coloration, ideal for professional environments such as studios, broadcast, ensemble recording, ambient capture, or solo instruments.
The microphone offers nine selectable polar patterns (cardioid, wide cardioid, hypercardioid, omnidirectional, figure-8 + intermediary positions) for perfect adaptation to any source and configuration. Three attenuation pads (-6 / -12 / -18 dB) provide total control over high-output sources up to 158 dB SPL. The bass-cut filters (40, 80, 160 Hz) help manage rumble, vibrations, and proximity effect with precision.
A peak-hold overload LED ensures instant visual monitoring of excessive levels, even during fast transients. For live environments or fixed installations, all controls can be locked to prevent accidental adjustments.
With its robustness, legendary precision, and unparalleled flexibility, the C414 XLS remains one of the most widely used microphones worldwide, excelling on vocals, strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion, and professional ambient recording.
