The WA-FT Fen Tone™ is a ribbon microphone designed for instruments, inspired by iconic 1950s models but reimagined with modern components to deliver a rich and timeless sound. Built with a custom Japanese pure aluminum ribbon (99.1%) 1.8 microns thick, a powerful neodymium magnet, and a USA-made CineMag transformer, the Fen Tone delivers authentic ribbon tones with modern reliability. Its design ensures a balanced sonic response with no “bright” or “dark” side, guaranteeing consistent performance in any recording setup.
Its major asset: a selectable +26 dB in-line preamp (Warm Lifter JFET), switchable to active (+dB) mode, allowing optimal use even with low-gain interfaces or preamps. In vintage (VT) mode, the microphone operates fully passive for an authentic reproduction of traditional ribbon tones. Warning: when using the WA-FT Fen Tone with +48V phantom power, never engage phantom power in “VT” mode and never connect the microphone to a phantom-powered source while in VT mode.
