Transparent and faithful
Today, many microphones are designed to bring their own color to sound capture, but many applications require a faithful reproduction of the source without adding or removing elements. That's why the 180 series came in.
KM 184 is a small membrane static micro with a frequency-independent cardioid directivity. Known for its naturality, transparency, low noise and ability to manage high acoustic pressures, it is now a standard for many applications, from classic to metal-type batteries.
A safe value
The KM 184 offers all the technical prowess of Neumann engineering. His cardioid diagram blocks the rear rejections (180°) with brilliance, even in the lowest frequencies. In practice, it does not provide any unwanted coloring in a large sound angle, which is essential in multichannel, stereo, or surround applications.
The KM 184 exhibits a very soft and linear frequency response, with a slight accentation around 9 kHz to add shine. It offers a dynamic range of 125 dB and manages up to 140 dB of acoustic pressure.
Versatile
The KM 184 is a reference microphone for studio and stage applications. Its remarkable transparency makes it an ideal choice for capturing acoustic instruments such as piano, percussive instruments, drums, acoustic guitars and other string instruments as well as orchestral instruments. It is as good for solo instruments as ensembles.
Thanks to its remarkable off-axis behavior, the KM 184 is an excellent microphone for stereo & surround captures, transcribing a faithful and authentic image. Although it is not specially optimized for the voice, it is often used for chorusing.
