The Advanced Legend

The M 150 tube is a unique small membrane microphone for orchestral recordings, based on the legendary Neumann M50. The M 150 incorporates a titanium capsule embedded in a small sphere to create an omnidirectional pattern that becomes directional at higher frequencies.

The M 150 offers the same extremely precise transitional response and the same unique directional characteristic as its predecessor, updated with modern technologies and improved performance.

Technically superior

Like its ancestor, the M 150 uses a small 12 mm diaphragm capsule embedded in a 40 mm sphere. The capsule itself is a pressure transducer, but the sphere changes its omnidirectional pattern to become more directional at higher frequencies.

The ultra-thin diaphragm is titanium, spaced only 10 microns from the rear plate, also titanium. All this results in an unrivalled transcription of transitory passages. This capsule is protected by an acoustically open grille.

The sound of silence.

Unlike its ancestor developed in the 1950s, the M 150 was designed without output transformer that could color the sound. Instead, the M 150 rests on an ultra-transparent exit stage ensuring a clear low spectrum, even in high levels, and a wide dynamic range of 119 dB.
A -10 dB attenuator pad allows the adaptability of the microphone with low-headroom preamps. A 40 Hz low-cut filter is also switchable. In the LIN position, the cut-off is effective at 16 Hz due to the almost unlimited frequency response.
