Transparent and faithful
Today, many microphones are designed to bring their own color to sound capture, but many applications require a faithful reproduction of the source without adding or removing elements. That's why the 180 series came in.
KM 185 is a small membrane static micro with hypercardioid directivity independent of frequency. Known for its naturality, transparency, low noise and ability to manage high acoustic pressures, it is now a standard for many applications, from classic to metal-type batteries.
A safe value
The KM 185 offers all the technical prowess of Neumann engineering. His hypercardioid diagram blocks rear rejections (120°) with brilliance, even in the lowest frequencies. In practice, it does not provide any unwanted coloring in a large sound angle, which is essential in multichannel, stereo, or surround applications.
The KM 184 exhibits a very smooth and linear frequency response, with a slight accentation around 10 kHz to add shine. It offers a dynamic range of 127 dB and manages up to 142 dB of acoustic pressure.
Versatile
The KM 185 is a reference microphone for studio and stage applications. Its remarkable transparency makes it an ideal choice for capturing acoustic instruments such as piano, percussive instruments, drums, acoustic guitars and other string instruments as well as wind instruments. Its high 120° rejection without off-axis staining provides a drastic solution to applications that request it, such as recording a snare box without taking the signal of the charleston nearby. Although not specially adapted to the human voice, it is often used for choirs as it transcribes their unique sound authenticity.
