The Audio-Technica AT4033a is a true studio reference microphone, considered a breakthrough when it was introduced in 1991. It was the first high-quality studio microphone offered below $1000 while most competitors sold similar models above $2000. It quickly established itself in a vast number of professional recording studios worldwide.
The current AT4033a version features an optimized internal electronic design as well as a redesigned capsule suspension system to drastically reduce mechanical noise, handling noise and unwanted vibrations. With its very low self-noise (17 dB SPL), high sensitivity and excellent high-SPL tolerance (up to 155 dB SPL with the -10 dB pad), it maintains an exceptional price/performance ratio across generations.
Its transformerless output circuit virtually eliminates low-frequency distortion and ensures fast, accurate transient response. The nickel-plated copper grille provides excellent capsule protection, stability and long-lasting performance.
The ultra-thin 2-micron diaphragm undergoes a five-step aging process to ensure stable acoustic characteristics over the years. As with all models from the 40 Series, the AT4033a is assembled in Japan to uncompromising quality standards, and comes with its AT8449a shockmount.
