Significant improvement

The U 89 i is apparently similar to the legendary U 87 but smaller and lighter. The U 89 i was introduced in 1980 and designed to improve U 87. It is technically superior to the latter on many aspects. Not only does it support higher levels of acoustic pressure, it also has a more flexible low-cut filter, and two more directivities than its predecessor (large and hypercardioid cardioid).

Advanced capture

The U 89 i incorporates a double-diaphragm K 89 capacitor capsule, with an advanced frequency response and a very wide spectrum response, in all its proposed directions. Its diffuse field response is also very uniform, a crucial feature for natural sound recordings in reverberant environments. All these elements make the U 89 i a microphone with remarkable sound balance.

The universal reference

The U 89 i is a universal studio microphone combining a classic circuit topology on transformer with a state-of-the-art Neumann capsule.

Its linear and fluid response makes it the ideal choice for voice recording and singing, but thanks to its flexible settings and 5 directivities, not to mention its low noise and low distortion rate, this microphone can cover all recording situations, in all styles.
